If you have background in any of these industries, start there. A company selling into a world you already understand will often prefer you over someone with more sales experience but no domain knowledge. That's your edge.

These companies are known for hiring entry-level remote reps and actually training them. Not every one will be hiring when you look — bookmark them and check monthly. Applying directly from a careers page also signals intent that a LinkedIn application doesn't.

Research every company before you apply

⚠️ Red flags in any W2 posting

"Commission only" with no base, "unlimited earning potential" with no numbers, no mention of training or ramp period, role reposted multiple times in 60 days. You have the full checklist in Module 3b — the same framework applies here.

You're not looking for an employer. You're looking for an opportunity.

The 1099 path means finding a product you believe in and representing it as an independent contractor. The search is fundamentally different from W2 — read this section fully before you start.

The 1099 space is where legitimate contractor opportunities live — and also where commission-only scams hide. Apply your red flag checklist from Module 3b to every single posting. If it requires a startup fee, an inventory purchase, or recruiting others — it is not a legitimate 1099 sales opportunity.

If there's a product in an industry you understand and believe in, find the VP of Sales on LinkedIn and ask directly whether they work with independent reps. More companies than you think do this.
